start of term 2

1 min read
So, we are into term two, we have lots of theory and are comming up to hand in our first books for outcome 3.
i have chosen my two artists for my next in class essay from pop art, Roy Lichentein and Jasper Johns.  I have chosen them because their bright and comtemporary designs caught my eye.

I am a few weeks ahead of the other people in the class because I am ready to ahnd my book in now, i am slightly worried because of that, my book isnt full to the end, but i feel i have filled it as much as it needs to be, so i hope it will all pan out fine.

I have chosen my potential solutions and i am looking forward to the rest of the year (and hopefully a decent grade).

So its getting further into the year, we have started our theory and i am getting no sleep or lunch times due to excessive homework.
I need to catch up on some theory, i really want to do well in this subject this year.

I have done some further experimenting with the sculptures and i am now going to move on to some more polariods, paintings and a whole bunch of stencils.

Now off to recess!

work brief

Work brief
After reading several famous feminist novels such as Bitch by Elizibeth Wurtzel and The Female Eunuch by Germaine Greer I have decided to base my years work on the transformation of the world from a machoistic society to that of one that is moving towards equating both sexes.  I would like to emphasize the political side and the original struggles, such as women trying for rights to vote and work in the early 20th century.  I wish to explore classical portraits using photography and a range of other mediums such as oil, acrylic, charcoal and fabrics. I would like to also look at women as sex objects, portrayed as a being with no further needs than bearing children and looking beautiful.  I would very much like to include some vintage fashion into this concept.
Other than my reading being an inspiration I find my inspiration through Man Ray's androgynous photography, a fellow deviant Aaron Jasinski  (jasinski.deviant art.com) and a famous Asian inspired painter by the name of Alex Gross.  All of whom which have experimented with portraits in separate movements Ray in the surrealist bunch, Jasinski a more abstract style and Gross practicing a traditional almost romantic twist.  I don't want to take my position in society for granted, I know that others struggled to get us where we are today.  More inspiration comes from musicians I have listened and learned from.  Tori Amos and Ani Difranco are two influential feminist singers that have changed the music industry for hard working women.  Their powerful and beautiful music makes it hard not to include them in some way this year.

I wish to create a vast number of potential solutions this year and have about 4 final solutions, or more if possible.  I would like to try some vintage photography from the 17th - 18th century, trying some very formal poses with Victorian period clothing.  The idea I am aiming for is the roles of women before the feminist revolution.  I would also like to work with portraits of the most influential feminists of this century.  These will emphasis their power and strength.  I would also like to create some photographs and experiment with cropping and cutting. These will work with the idea of a woman only being focused on for certain aspects, as a mother, as an employee or wife. Another  idea is to reference the famous 'pin - up' painters of the early to mid 1900's.  these women were stuck up on the walls of men and glorified.  They are always shown with giant smiles and are often scantily clad.  I wish to do the opposite and depict them with melancholical frowns or tears, but still in their alluring poses.  This is the irony I am looking for.
The last piece I wish to attempt is the evolution of woman, possibly from child to old age, but also maybe from almost slave to strong and powerful woman.  These I wish to create these in digital photography and have each separate photo representing another phase in their evolution.

Time line:
Term one:
Complete inspiration, work brief, complete half of experimentation, have an idea of final product, complete one possible final solution
Term two:
Complete at least 4 possible solutions, have all of experimentation done, possibly start final solutions.
Term three:
By the end of term three I wish to have completed 4-5 works based on my work brief.  I want my book to be almost completed and be ready for the exam.

Year 12 2005

1 min read
My name is Talor Browne and i have begun this account to compliment my visual diaries in my year 12 Studio Art class in 2005.

I am already a Deviant Art user of over a year on the account:
greywillow.deviantart.com
But this account will contain only works done for Studio Arts and thoughts and updates over the year.

I hope to eventually hand in this website with my finished pieces as part of the work for the year.  I have already begun the preparations for the year by  writing up my work brief(which i will be submitting as a piece of writing, possibly on this journal) and documenting my inspiration.  This includes many artists as well as a fellow deviant Jasinski.

I look forward to keeping up this account and sharing my work throughout the year.

Thanks, Talor.
